Gender Reveal: Low-Key Ideas for Introverts

gender reveal

Gender reveal parties are becoming ever more popular among my generation. We all love a good reason to celebrate, so why not use it as an excuse??

Still, my husband and I are total introverts. We knew right away we didn’t want a party. I personally would rather stay home and read than have to hold a conversation at a party.

& my husband doesn’t mind parties once in a while. But he was so nervous to stand in front of a crowd at our wedding that I seriously worried he wouldn’t show!

So, it makes sense that neither one of us wanted to do the trendy thing and have a gender reveal party. Guests, entertaining, spotlight on us? No thanks!!

However, since the moment we told my husband’s family, my MIL has been commenting all the time about how she can’t wait to find out. I knew that I needed to find a way to surprise her with the big news.

We told my husband’s family we were getting the anatomy scan at week 20. They would have to wait until then to find out if our baby was a boy or girl. What they didn’t know is that we privately decided to get an early scan done three weeks before that.

I thought I might put some pink or blue balloons in a box and just let them open it. But once we’d found out I thought, I can finally buy something gender specific! So I purchased Grandma and grandpa themed onesies from Walmart for less than $3 each, and put them in the box.

On top of that, I put in two blue balloons and some blue tissue paper.

At dinner that night, we told them that since they kept buying things for the baby we had a gift for them. Of course my MIL guessed right away that this was the reveal. She said she’d had suspicions that we were going to do this early.

They were so excited when they realized what the gift actually was though! Now only two days later, my MIL has started buying ALL THE THINGS!

Here’s some more ideas for how to announce the gender of your baby without all the fuss.

gender reveal alternative

Announce via Snapchat

You can still do a fun and fancy reveal without actually entertaining guests. Figure out what you want to do for the big reveal. Then record it on Snapchat and send it to all your friends and family!

You can keep your video as a memory instead of it disappearing!

Get professional photos done and share them online

I like this idea as well because you get to keep the photos forever.

Send it in the mail

If you’ve got the extra $$ for stamps, send out your gender announcement in the mail.

Hand out sweets

Colored cupcakes, surprise cake, pink or blue candies… you get the idea. Find a way to keep the secret under wraps and then hand out the sweets at work or a small family gathering.

How did you reveal the gender of your baby? Share your announcement with us in the comments!

  1. My husband and I were at a family get together and we bought Pink Frosted Cookies and Blueberry Muffins. Everyone voted on what gender they thought the baby would be and they got a pink frosted cookie if they thought it was a girl and a blueberry muffin if they thought it was a boy.

Some people ended up grabbing both just because they wanted to eat them both. lol! After we tallied all the results. My husband was to grab either the cookie or the muffin to reveal the gender. He went to grab the cookie and grabbed the muffin at the last second. We are having a boy! Haha!

I see you are due soon, So am I. My due date is November 25th 🙂

    1. I love that idea! You were already at a family gathering and the food was just part of it – no extra pressure. Congrats on your boy! We are due December 11, so not far off! I’m hoping for a November baby anyway 😉 Thanks for stopping by!
